I kinda like it. I hope it will not remain as a prototype just like the Neowing.

New Orleans, La,
The new Wing is here and the run down is as follows. The engine is all new single OHC with 4 valves per cylinder. The cam directly operates the intake valves and rocker arms operate the exhaust. The starter and alternator are one unit and the engine bore and stroke are square at 73x73 and displacement is now 1833 not 1834. The engine was moved forward because the bore centers were moved closer also the driver moved forward increasing forward weight bias which improved handling and stability.. Because the engine is more efficient and the bike is lighter, by 90lbs. in the lightest model, the fuel capacity has been dropped to 5.5 gals.. Honda claims the same range due to a claimed 42 mpg.. The front suspension is the Japanese version of BMW'S parameter front in and all of its' inherent advantages. Drive by wire with a host of driving modes and rider aids along with Apple Play for entertainment. Honda finally broke down and fitted the Wing with an electric windshield and the trunk is now removable like all the other big tour rigs. The only problem is that it takes 4 hers. auto remove/replace the trunk. The big Wing now has electronically adjustable suspension on the rear. The Wing also lost 40 liters of storage in the transformation process, although it is still noteworthy at 110 liters. The manual transmission has 6 speeds and the starter assist reverse and the very new DCT has 7 speeds with a creep mode that goes forward and reverse ala Yamaha Venture except it is push button engage and activate. Honda seems to have covered all of the bases with this latest iteration and it is also the lightest with weights from 787-863.

Reducing the tank to 5.5 gallons is weird.

Yeah. Part of the weight reduction program I suppose. As is the luggage space reduction. And reduced passenger seating area. And no built in intercom. My GW riding friends are already bitching about that one. If the new Goldwing can't match the 270 mile (average) range of the old one, they aren't going to be happy about that either. I've already heard grumblings about the reduced luggage capacity from my friends. That's one of the very few things they could gloat about in comparison to my Vision, and now it will be the same as my Vision.

It looks to me like Honda is going after the BMW market.

Early reports are claiming 124 horsepower at the crankshaft. If true, that will equate, at best, to about 110 at the wheel. At 50 pounds lighter weight than a Vision Tour, that would be equal performance to a Vision with cams and a good tune.

Wow not a lot of traffic on here any more. I just picked up my 18 Wing on Friday and I have to say I?m loving it! I got the DCT and am really happy I did it?s pretty amazing and damn fast. Not to mention it looks great sitting next to my blue Vision. It?s definitely heads and tails above the old GoldWing for sure. I?m not sure who said the old GoldWings got 270 miles on a tank but that is virtually impossible. I?ve owned 6 of them over the years since 2001 and none ever even got close to that. On the interstate the mpg drops to about 33-34mpg at 70 and above. The fuel light comes on religously at 190 miles. if I?m trolling backroads maybe 200, it?s empty and your pushing at 240. 36 to 38 avg on it?s best days, the F6B barely did any better.

I've been on many extended trips with friends who ride GL1800 Goldwings. They average around 40 to 42 MPG on long road trips. My Vision averages about 2 MPG better than they do at every gas stop. My buddy who bought a new Harley Road Glide for our last trip always beat me by about 2 MPG at every gas stop. This was a 6200 mile trip.

The Goldwings, with 6.6 gallons, at 42 MPG, can indeed travel 270 miles per tank. My range is about 15 to 20 miles less, so 240 to 250 miles. The Harley always got 48 to 50 MPG. We rode 70 to 75 on the big roads, but slower on the backroads. We spent as much time on backroads as possible.

These numbers are from the odometer and the actual gallons registered by the gas pumps, and figured by hand.

The new Goldwing is reported by several magazines to get about 40 to 42 MPG on the highway. The magazines report the new Goldwing has a 224 mile range.

Although they were very excited about the new GW when it was announced, and many have test ridden them, none of my friends have yet bought one. They love many things about them, especially the DCT, but the lack of factory installed intercom, reduced range, and reduced luggage capacity are mentioned as reasons to wait to buy. They don't want to give those things up.

We all ride two-up on long trips, and pack for multiple week's travel.

Have to say that I'm envious of your garage, and glad to hear that the Vision isn't being removed.

Enjoy the new ride.

I've owned 6 GoldWings and I've never seen 240 miles out of tank of gas, ever. Not even on my Vision (this is my 2nd one). Light always comes on about 190 to 200 miles and the vision it's 200-210, my buddies Harley always out did both of them. The only time I saw 240 on the Vision was on the Blueridge at high altitude running 50mph for most of the rides with no interstate.

The Goldwing is a brick in the wind on the interstate. Full F to E riding on the interstate and 75mph will net 34-36mpg even riding solo. Occasionally if I slow to 70mph I get 38mpg. Normally people don't run the tank out to 6.6 on fill up usually 5.8 to 6.0 gallons on fill ups otherwise your dangerously close to running out. Normal riding with a mix the light will be on at 190 and you've got about 38 miles before it stalls. My fill ups were always 190-210 and put in 5.8 on average. Doing the math on 210/5.8 is right at 36mpg average which is all I've ever seen unless you never go over 50mph, ride like a baby and don't have any accessories on the bike like a taller windscreen or baker wings or other stuff that hangs off and creates drag and you've got the screen in the lowest position. Not saying it's impossible, just not probable under normal conditions.

So far my new Wing does exactly the same just on less gas. I just watched a review today where they filled up the new wing and took it from full until it stalled and it managed just over 260 miles. So it really does what the old one does just on less gas.

The storage is smaller, then again so is the Vision but everyone seems to make it work.

As for the intercom just pick up a set of Sena headsets and pair them to the bike and walla. It doesn't cost much difference than buying JB headsets with the right chords to run them. Then you pair your phone and you get apple car play and the ability to take calls in the headset and listen to navigation, which was almost impossible and required some trickery to get done on the old bike.

For some reason, we seem to get better gas mileage than you do. Maybe it's the backroads and mountains we prefer to ride.

We, like you, do typically refuel around 200 to 220 miles, BUT there have been times, especially in the upper Midwest and West, that the next fuel station is farther away. It's nice knowing what your actual range is when you have to stretch it.

I'm glad you like the new GW. I wish some of my friends would buy one so we could swap rides occasionally. I like to try new stuff.

Just saw a TV advertisement for the new Honda F6B. Looks for all the world like a copy of my 2010 8 Ball. Nice to see Honda keeping up. Still sore at Polaris though. May they all contract terminal hangnails for making me an orphink.
